Helgeland Museum contains 16 different museums, in 15 municipalities, all the way from the high mountains to the deep fjords.The museums represent a wide range of Village Green collections, which describes the environments of the working people and their way of living, hundreds of years ago.
 
During summertime, there are many different activities at Helgeland Museum, and if you are lucky you might get a taste of unique and traditional local food...

If you are interested in the Stone Age, you can visit the rock carvings at Vevelstad, the cave paintings in Brønnøy, hunting traps in Grane, burial mounds and dwelling remains at Dønna, Vega and Træna.

The Viking Age and the local chief "Hårek at Tjøtta", are present at Alstahaug. The old stone churches situated at Alstahaug, Dønna and Herøy, provide a taste of the Medieval periode.
 
You will find traces of the poet and vicar Petter Dass, all over the region. Please visit the exciting and modern museum at Alstahaug; Petter Dass Museum.
 
Looking for information about the tradesmen and landlords? Please visit Dønna and Alstahaug.
 
In Hattfjelldal and Velfjord you will find the ancient history of the minority people, the Samis.
 
Vevelstad Museum has well documented information concerning the fishermen, whilst agriculture and food culture is the theme at Sømna Museum.
 
If you would like to learn more about the traditional "Nordland boat", please visit Bindal, Hemnes and Herøy Museums.
 
Sjøgata in Mosjøen is a living time capsule, that takes you back to the first town at Helgeland.
 
The story of the iron industry and steelworks comes alive at Rana Museum.
 
At Nesna Museum you can dig into the history of the educational system
 
Second World War is well documented at Grønsvik coastal fortress in Lurøy.
